Why can’t I natively export my podcast subscriptions from major platforms?

Major platforms like Spotify and YouTube operate as walled gardens. Because podcasts are valuable for audience retention and ad revenue, big networks design their ecosystem to keep you inside their apps. Providing a built-in "Export to OPML" button makes it easier for users to leave or split their listening across different apps, so they simply don't offer one.

When you do manage to export your data from these platforms (like using Google Takeout), it is rarely formatted in open, standard files like OPML that other podcast players can immediately read.
